When one thinks of horror, one doesn’t usually think of Disney. However, the “House of Mouse” has, been a purveyor of the creepy and macabre from the very beginning with Snow White on through Fantasia into the 70s and 80s with Watcher in the Woods, Something Wicked This Way Comes. And while there current model seems to be space operas and superheroes, Disney has gone back to their roots in shorts, releasing a series of cartoons starring Mickey Mouse. The best of these new shorts is a Halloween episode entitles Ghoul Friend

Mickey's car breaks down near a graveyard, where he encounters a zombie that resembles Goofy.

Ghoul Friend is a great short, evoking the studio’s past in short form animation as well as dipping into some of the more macabre territory it used to travel in. This is a family friendly short that is also really good. These days those two traits, working in tandem, are hard to find.
